In our time, the foundation for the consolidation of the position of women within the family as well as within her social and cultural life needs to be redefined. The modernism misleads women and they do not know how to lead a good and happy life. The Marian ideal and the attachment to the person of the Blessed Virgin Mary, when absorbed in its fullness, become a powerful and creative inspiration in this quest.
As the masterpiece of the new creation, Mary is a model for Women of all states of life and time. Mary’s person represents a disquieting challenge to those advocating the abolishment of all differences between Women and Men, as well as to those seeking to perpetuate Women’s subordination to men. To be a Woman is not a role that can be enchanted arbitrarily. Rather it is a basic anthropological disposition permeating one’s entire existence based on the understanding that body and soul are interrelated (anima forma corporis).

In her trip to USA, Blessed mother Theresa was asked what her observation of the people of USA was and their greatest problem was. She immediately replied that it is loneliness. In spite of its wealth Americans live in loneliness. Her priority was to help these people to come out of this loneliness.
Nuclear families, migration, and IT jobs have broken the nexus of family ties. Modern entertainments have closed the circle of relationship. Visiting friends and relatives seems to be boring. Modern man is a lonely man. He is hiding within the four walls and his mindset is narrow. At this juncture loneliness creeps in and the result is frustration and despair. I would like to reflect on the nature of our calling and how to fight loneliness in our priestly life. Though this reflection is the loneliness in priesthood, it will be also helpful to all the faithful.

We Roman Catholics celebrate the Feast of Presentation of the Lord every year on 2 Feb. It is the commemoration of the offering of the infant Jesus to God in fulfillment of the Law of Moses. It reminds us that we too are bound by the Law of God to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and body.
From the Holy Bible we learn about many sacrifices being offered to God from the time of Cain and Abel upto Abraham coming forward to offer his only son Isaac. In the same way Mary offered her only son Jesus to God. Offering is a symbol of total surrender to God; it is a sign of giving one’s love to another. The best offering is one’s complete surrender to the plan of God. We see such incidents in all religions. This complete surrender denotes love, gratitude, commitment and union.

Incomprehensible Creator, the true fountain of light and only Author of all knowledge: design, we beseech thee, to enlighten our understanding, and to remove from us all darkness of sin and ignorance. Thou, who makest eloquent the tongues of those who lack utterance, direct out tongues, and pour on our lips the grace of thy blessing.
Give us a diligent and obedient spirit, quickness of apprehension, capacity of retaining, and the powerful assistance of Thy holy grace; so that what we hear or learn we may apply to thy honor and the eternal salvation of our souls. Amen
